Asheville's Bioneers Conference

Asheville's Bioneers Conference

The LR Sustainability Studies program is pleased to announce the third annual Asheville "Taste of Bioneers" Conference. 

  • Friday, November 14th, 5:30pm - 10:00pm
  • Wednesday, November 19th, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
  • Friday, November 21st, 5:30pm - 10:00pm

The year's Bioneers Conference aims to enhance community sustainability and resilience by reaching out across various sectors and building better bridges. We will beam in speakers from the 25th Annual Bioneers Conference including:

  • Terry Tempset Williams on "Why Wilderness Matters"
  • Eve Ensler on "Ending Domestic Violence"
  • Paul Stamets on "Mycelium, Mushrooms, and Mytotechnologies"
  • john powell on "Creating a Beloved Community Across Race, Class, and Other Differences"
  • Alisa Gravitz on "Feminomics: Reinventing Economics that Work for All of Life"

 

There will also be local panels that follow several of the national speakers with representatives from various local organizations including:

  • The Wilderness Society
  • Wild South
  • Our Voice
  • YWCA
  • No Taste Like Home
  • Asheville Buncombe Sustainable Communities Initiatives, Collider
  • Venture Asheville
  • BlueRidge Outdoors
  • Organic Growers School

 

On Wednesday November 19th Dr. Adam Powell from the LR Religious Studies Program will host a panel on religion and sustainability in conjunction with Asheville Green Drinks. Panelists will include:

  • Rabbi Justin Goldstein, Conservative Judaism
  • Byron Ballard, Wiccan perspective
  • Steve Runholt, Presbyterian perspective

 

Opportunities for community discussion and problem solving will be woven throughout the event. Food and drink will be available, including a generous donation from the Catawba brewing company. 

This event is FREE and open to the entire community (on a first come, first serve basis). Come join us as we socialize, learn, share and grow together as a community! We hope to see you there!
